Hatchet 3 is the horror film of 2013 in the Hatchet series. It tells the story of Victor Crowley, his murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.



The strengths of the film lie in the practical effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects as well as sets. This is different from many horror movies nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. It feels like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is somewhat tongue-in-cheek and campy. Additionally, there are some genuinely funny moments throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.

The problem is that the budget is so small (reportedly $1 million) the majority of locations used in the film are re-used locations from previous films in series. For instance, the exact boathouse location was used twice in the film. Many of these locations seem like they've been reused from other films from this series. It can feel almost too familiar at times especially for people who've seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, I was impressed by Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the (click now to read blogs) series. It also provided plenty of gory thrills and entertaining performances from its cast members.
